This Months story is about our featured builder from Canada, Peter Breen. I haven’t met Peter yet , but have read the book – “Master Boat Builder” authored by Rick McGraw that tells his story. A great read for any enthusiast!
When you grow up spending every weekend on an island in the Muskoka Lakes region of Ontario, somehow it is not surprising that a little boy would fall in love with boats. Let’s face it, all of us “little boys” fall in love with boats cars and other “puppy dog tail” items on the list! To pursue that love to adulthood as a way to make a living is a life many would love to mimic. Grab a copy of the book for an in-depth biography on Mr. Breen.
In business you become successful by offering a product or service that is desired by the customer and appreciated by that customer when the job is done, or sale completed. Benny Hill, the comedian, quoted the phrase “learning all the time”! Of course, his lessons were on the “Learning the hard way” side of things. Peter talks about developing his skill set over the past 30 years striving to make his next project better than his last. That dedication and drive has brought discriminating customers to his shop with some historic restorations and new unique creations. The word “trust” describes Peter’s relationships with his customers. He is trusted to do the very best work with attention to detail that brings out his passion in his craft. With his son Jeffrey also on board with the business the artful creations and restorations have a bright future to continue for another 30 years!
Mike Thompson, a customer, has toured his 28’ Peter Breen Gentleman’s Racer called “Thunder” throughout North America. Mike has commented “as Lennon and McCartney will be remembered with greats such as Mozart and Beethoven, Peter Breen, given time will be remembered along with Ditchburn, Minnett and Shield.
NOW you have an opportunity to meet Mr. Breen and enjoy seeing several examples of his work at our upcoming boat show on September 7th at the historic Buffalo Launch Club, in Grand Island NY.

The Buffalo Launch Club enjoys a unique position in the history of the Niagara frontier, as well as, the national scene.
When the Buffalo Launch Club was formed in 1903 it was the first Power Boat Club in North America, if not the world, and contributed much to the recognition of our area.
In 1908 The club was responsible for the first boat show ever held between New York City and Chicago and had received national acclaim as a number one power boat club in United States. In the ‘40s and ‘50s the Buffalo Launch Club also receive national and international recognition for the speed boat regattas they sponsored and which attracted the top boat drivers in the world.
Throughout the years of existence, The Buffalo Launch Club has been an active participant in area boating activities and established a reputation as the finest boating club on the Niagara Frontier.
