1954 Schweizer Brothers Boat

By bob umhauer

This boat was constructed to order by my father in 1953. The Schweizer brothers started building the boat in 1954, completing it the same year. My Dad paid $1,000 for it. The boat was originally moored in Angola, NY. My Dad sold the cottage in 1969 and the boat was moved to Buffalo. In 1972, by brother put the boat back into the water at Silver Creek. It was there until 1973 when the creek overflowed. The boat was washed up on shore and damaged. It was brought back to Buffalo and put in storage. On June 6, 1996, Dad passed away. It was his last wish that I have the boat. In April of 1997, I started repairing and making the boat “sea worthy” again. The restoration was completed in time for the one year anniversary of my Dad’s death. This boat is used for fishing and is used frequently during the summer. In 1998, I entered the boat into its first boat show and placed 3rd in its class; I have entered it in every boat show since. then. During the 2021 boat show, I found out that I have the only Schweizer Craft left in Western New York
